BlackRock acquired the Asset Management and ETF business of Barclays PLC (Barclays Global Investors, iShares) for $15.2 billion in 2009. Launched in 2000, the meteoric rise of BGI’s ETF business is widely credited with fueling this record-breaking acquisition, placing iShares among the most remarkable financial challenger brands in a generation.
From inception to acquisition (2000 - 2009), Paul served as chief architect of the iShares brand globally (and of Barclays US), taking a sales-and data-centric approach to decoding implicit decision-making systems that drive buyer behavior, and harnessing those insights to disrupt industry convention, challenge advisor inertia, and propel the iShares brand.
